Fluid applied, resinous epoxy flooring systems including epoxy, polyaspartic, polyurea and others, allow for a variety of different designs, styles and color combinations. However, despite its importance many end users and installers often neglect to consider one major factor, flooring thickness. Epoxy and other resinous floors can vary greatly in overall thickness. Let's take a moment to discuss this key characteristic of fluid applied resinous flooring that is too often overlooked.

Not all resinous floors are created equal. All floors are designed to serve a specific function or purpose and as such some epoxy floors are engineered to be thicker, more resilient, and durable than others. The traffic and demands of your workspace or residential needs should influence the both the type and thickness of your epoxy floor. Floor coatings are measured in ‘mils’ (a mil is 1/1000th of an inch). For example, one-eighth of an inch equals approximately 125 mils. The standard ‘BOX STORE’ floor paint when cured is about 2 mils, a sheet of standard copy paper is about 4 mils, and a credit card is about 30 mils thick.

As a general rule, the thicker the floor is the longer lasting it will be, and also the more costly it will be. One thing to remember is that if you go from a 10-mil floor thickness to a 20 mil, you need TWICE as much material.

We understand that resinous epoxy floor thickness is also often determined by the budget allotted for the project. At Armortech, we offer a variety of high-quality solutions to meet the needs and budget of our clients. Whether you're in the market for an economical, thin-mil floor for increased aesthetic appeal, and light reflectivity or a commercial client in need of a chemical resistant high-build system for your commercial kitchen or manufacturing plant, or a home owner wanting to dress up your old garage floor, have the right system to meet your needs.

Feel free to contact us if you have any questions, were always happy to help.
